Each of our church members have been provided with evangelism tools and are trained and encouraged to witness as a way of life. First Christian Church sponsors throughout the year Featherstone Canyon Christian Camp which provides church retreats and summer camps for families, teens and children. First Christian Church is a current member of the National City Chamber of Commerce. We participate in civic functions as we reach out to the business community. In addition our church is involved in local business expos witnessing and providing evangelism materials. Our church campus is the location for the community Head Start program. We also partner with the San Diego Food Bank and Treasure Box to provide a food distribution ministry. Food Distribution In times of economic downturn we have opened a church food distribution room for our community. Every Wednesday and Friday evening the pantry is open for free food distribution. We are also a food distribution center for the San Diego Food Bank the 2nd Friday morning of each month from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Any resident of National City who meets certain financial criteria may receive free food. Three hundred fifty of our neighbors receive food for their families. Over 1100 people benefit from this program. Men's Ministry The men meet every 3rd Friday for a program, Bible study, prayer and fellowship. They have a breakfast on the 2nd Saturday of each month and then provide maintenance to the church campus. The Men's Ministry is the focus point for our church wide evangelism program. Women's Ministry One of the most active ministry teams in the church is the Women's Ministry. Meetings are held on the first and third Friday evenings of the month at various locations. This team is organized into three areas of responsibility: officers, standing committees and special events volunteers. The committees consist of: baptistery and communion preparation, flower arrangement, greeters/ushers, kitchen/pantry, music, nursery, photography, bulletin board, home Bible studies, church decorations, seniors/elderly visitation, missions, get well cards, games and bridal/baby showers. The special events volunteers oversee Valentine's Day, anniversary, bereavement, Easter, Mother's/Elderly Day, Father's Day, fundraisers/community outreach, Vacation Bible School, Trick or Truth, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Secret Sisters. Home Ministry Teams We have active men, women and teen ministry teams as well as small home meetings throughout the week. On the 1st, 3rd and 5th Fridays, the women meet in various homes for Bible study and prayer! Small Group Ministry Teams Rene's Ministry Team is the 1st Saturday; Rolly & Lita's Ministry Team & Jun & Elsa's Ministry Team are the 2nd Saturday; Jimmy & Thelma's Ministry Team on the 3rd Monday and Gary & Arizona's Ministry Team on the 3rd Thursday.
